It's not weight. There's a metal loop in the pavement that senses large amounts of metal (magnetic potential). The county guys say that a MC should trigger the thing, but it doesnt usually happen in my experience. You can try rocking back and forth to wake it up, run over to the pedestrian button and push it, wait for a car or fill your pockets with hundreds of pounds of iron.
